There are many different principles in Korean law as compared with western legal
principles. The most common area of law for TEFL teachers is contract law. Most
of the actions that cannot be resolved will end up in the Small Claims Court.
Occasionally the cases reach the Supreme Court for determination. Most disputes
in Korea originate with private schools "hogwans,' though it is not uncommon
to see Universities unilaterally changing contractual conditions. Legal fees can
be as high in Korea as in the U.S., with most Korean attorneys only acting once
