Vietnam: Inside Information

The following information has been gathered in February 2006 by our Law Offices in Vietnam.

There are many language centers in Vietnam at the moment and they all want to employ foreigners to work for them. Without doubt, there is a very high demand for English teachers from overseas. There are top language centers, such as British Council, Language Link and Apollo. These centers require employees to have suitable qualifications and salaries here are normally higher, approximately USD $18 per hour or more, according to qualifications and the nature of employment. Other schools we have contacted also offered similar contractual provision for the qualified teacher.

There are many other centers managed by individuals and families or other private sectors. Salaries at these centers are between USD $12-15 per hour. Also, English language teachers from overseas are very much wanted as private tutors for kids by many families here.

Salaries are negotiable. Many 'international standard' schools and kindergartens have been set up and they all need English native speakers to teach for them. I think you can target this new and potential market.

Shortly will supply information about accommodation conditions, health and other assistance that foreigners can get here. If you need any help in accepting employment in Vietnam, please e-mail us.

Teachers with TESOL Certificates are given priority by employers in Vietnam. The two certificates widely accepted are the CELTA Certificate and Asian EFL Journal Certificate, which is supported by the Open University of Vietnam.
